How can infographic design help us to get a better grip on what is happening in the world? That was the theme of the Dutch Infographics Conference 2022. Our two infographic experts, Frauke en Bart, attended the conference, amongst the great examples and inspiring pieces, these talks inspired them the most.
Frauke: I really liked the talk from Stefanie Posavec and Miriam Quick. These two women are blurring the line between art and data design. Their latest project is an interactive children's book that makes facts and data tangible. What I like about this is the fact that they keep the data playful and understandable. They make the reader curious about information that may not be understood in a different form. Very inspiring to see how they experiment with new techniques to create surprising design.

Bart: A completely different energy, but I found Marcelo Duhalde’s talk very inspiring. He is a creative director at The South China Morning Post, an English language newspaper from Hong Kong. This newspaper makes great use of infographics. Not necessarily as visual support for articles like many other newspapers do, but as standalone, page-filling and visual news stories. Marcelo showed how they go about creating such a visual story and how they delve even deeper by making an interactive version. Very cool!
